APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Officers in a Wisconsin town are asking residents to stop feeding wild turkeys. The request comes as a recent increase in its turkey population near the Memorial Park neighborhood in Appleton is causing several public safety concerns.

A Facebook post from the Appleton Police Department shows a wild turkey chasing an Appleton PD Community Service vehicle, with officers noting the local rise in the wild turkey population in recent years.

The turkeys have reportedly been spotted in busy intersections, pecking at vehicles, running into cyclists and motorcyclists, and causing traffic congestion.

While we all appreciate wildlife, the safety of our community is a priority. To help prevent further issues, please avoid feeding wild turkeys. Appleton city ordinance prohibits feeding wild animals, as it encourages them to establish a presence in urban areas.
