BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Three teenagers were arrested in Birmingham following a carjacking and police chase last Friday.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, a man was carjacked at gunpoint while on Pearson Avenue Southwest at 10:35 p.m. Friday. An hour later, officers were told the car traveling through the West End neighborhood.
Officers with the West Precinct, along with BPD’s Tactical Unit and Special Enforcement Team officers, spotted the stolen car shortly thereafter and began a chase with the suspects that ended near 26th Street Southwest at St. Charles Avenue Southwest.
Officers, with assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Star One helicopter, took a 17-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 14-year-old into custody following the chase. Officers were able to recover the victim’s vehicle, other stolen items, a firearm, and three ski masks.
A warrant for first-degree robbery was issued for the 17-year-old and will be charged as an adult.
The 15-year-old and 14-year-old are being held in the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center.
