Today's Chicago Weather Update: Flash Flood Warning for Cook and Will Counties, Flood Watch for Cook, DuPage, Will, and Lake (IN) Counties

CHICAGO (WLS) — There is a Flash Flood Warning in effect Tuesday for parts of the area, as more storms are expected to move through.

There is a Flash Flood Warning for Cook and Will counties until 6 p.m.

The Flood Watch is in effect until midnight Wednesday for Cook, DuPage and Will counties in Illinois and Lake County, Indiana.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for Cook County until 4 p.m.

Homewood police said the Dixie Highway viaduct, located in the 17800-block of Dixie, is closed due to flooding.

Storms are expected to move into the Chicago metro area between 2 and 4 p.m.

Storms will continue to develop over the same areas for several hours between 4 and 8 p.m.

Combined with rain Monday and earlier Tuesday, flooding could be an issue.

Here’s what to expect during a rainy Tuesday.

One to 2.5 inches of rain are possible around Cook County. The rainfall rate could be 1 to 2 inches per hour.

There are ground stops in place at Midway and O’Hare airports due to thunderstorms.

Dry weather is expected the next few days.

A new national flood sensor network launched Monday in Chicago.

The network will deliver real-time flood monitoring to city leaders, emergency responders and residents.
