Sir Tom Jones was forced to cancel his Southern California concerts at the last minute after coming down with a severe case of the flu.
The Welsh music icon fell ill unexpectedly on Monday, postponing his scheduled performances in Los Angeles and San Diego just hours before he was due to take the stage.
“I’ve had a great time these last few weeks, completing 20 shows and singing for wonderful audiences across the USA, but unexpectedly I’ve been hit with a bad case of the flu,” Jones said in a social media post.
“Following doctor’s advice, I unfortunately have to reschedule tonight’s show in Los Angeles and tomorrow’s show in San Diego,” he added.
The Los Angeles concert was scheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m. at The Greek Theatre and will now take place on November 4. Tuesday’s San Diego performance, originally set for 7:30 p.m. at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, has been moved to November 3rd.
The abrupt change comes as Jones continues his “Come Gather Round” tour, following a three-show run in Las Vegas.
The North American leg began September 18 in Highland Park, Illinois, after the veteran performer launched the broader worldwide tour in England in June.
Jones remains celebrated for enduring hits including “She’s a Lady,” “Sex Bomb,” and “Delilah.”
In recognition of his contribution to music, he was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2006.
