Baylor University has scored a significant win for its football program by securing the commitment of DJ Lagway, a former quarterback from the University of Florida, who boasts a strong family connection to the school.

WACO, Texas — In a move that ends weeks of speculation, Baylor football has confirmed that DJ Lagway, a standout quarterback, will join their ranks. His addition is set to strengthen the team’s lineup as they gear up for the 2026 season.

Lagway brings with him two remaining years of NCAA eligibility, offering Baylor not just an immediate boost but also long-term depth at the quarterback position.

Buzz about Lagway’s potential switch to Baylor gained momentum after he was seen attending a Baylor men’s basketball game against Iowa State, alongside head coach Dave Aranda. This appearance quickly fueled discussions among college football analysts.

For Lagway, Baylor is more than just a new team—it’s a homecoming. His father, Derek Lagway, left a mark at Baylor as a running back from 1997 to 2001, weaving a personal and familial thread into DJ’s decision to transfer to Waco.

On the field, Lagway brings a powerful physical presence at 6-foot-3, 247 pounds. During his most recent season at Florida, he threw for 2,264 passing yards and 16 touchdowns, completing 62.2 percent of his passes.

He also led the SEC with 14 interceptions, a statistic that reflects both the volume of responsibility he carried and the challenges faced by a Florida team that finished the season 4–8.

For Baylor, Lagway represents a fresh start and a potential cornerstone as the program looks to reassert itself in the Big 12.

His blend of size, arm strength, and experience at the Power Four level makes him one of the most intriguing additions of the offseason.
