In a tragic incident early Thursday morning, an 18-year-old woman lost her life in a shooting near Loyola Beach in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. According to police reports, the young woman was walking with friends when the shooting occurred.
Identified by Loyola University as Sheridan Gorman, the victim was a student at the institution. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the vicinity of West Pratt Boulevard.
Authorities reported that a male suspect approached the group on foot and, without warning, brandished a firearm and discharged it towards them. Sadly, Gorman was struck in the head and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Fortunately, her companions were unharmed in the attack.

The Chicago Police Department is actively investigating the case, seeking to bring justice for this senseless act of violence. The community and university mourn the loss of a young life with so much potential.
The woman was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Loyola released a statement in part saying, “This is a tragic loss, and our hearts go out toSheridan’sfamily, loved ones, and all who knew her. We are in close contact with law enforcement as they investigate and work to understand the full circumstances of this tragedy. Based on the information available to us now, there is no ongoing threat to our campus community. We will continue to provide updates as confirmed information becomes available.”
Loyola said counseling services are available for students.
