Illinois Democrats reject Trump’s offer to help curb Chicago crime
Harris Faulkner recently highlighted the ongoing rise in violent crime within Chicago, drawing attention to President Trump’s consistent suggestions to deploy the National Guard to the city. This suggestion has been met with criticism from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who argue that Trump’s proposals reflect a misunderstanding of the city’s security requirements and ignore the detrimental impact of his administration’s funding cuts to key public safety institutions in Chicago.
The city faced a tragic weekend, with three individuals losing their lives and a dozen others injured due to numerous shootings that occurred across Chicago.
The disturbing statistics were gathered by news media through an analysis of data provided by the Chicago Police Department, covering the period from 5 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
In just three days, a total of 15 individuals fell victim to shootings, with ages of the victims spanning from 17 to 57 years old, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the violence.

The trend is slightly lower than the previous weekend during the Juneteenth holiday when six people were killed and dozens more injured as gunfire erupted throughout the city.

He said, “From day one in office, my number one priority has been driving down violence and breaking the cycles of trauma and despair which have disrupted the lives of countless Chicagoans—with this executive order we are bringing together every tool at our disposal to save lives and build safer communities.”
Less than two hours after Johnson’s executive order was signed last week, Chicago police said two people were killed after an unknown suspect opened fire; the shooting is still under investigation.
“Two male victims were discovered in the rear of a residence with multiple gunshot wounds to the body,” the report said.

News Media has reached out to Gov. JB Pritzker and Johnson on multiple occasions for comment regarding the gun violence in the city and has not yet heard back.
