Authorities in Fairfield are actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that took place after a graduation ceremony for Sem Yeto High School in the Bay Area.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — In a heartbreaking turn of events, a shooting unfolded following a graduation ceremony at Fairfield High School on Wednesday evening, resulting in one fatality and injuries to three others, as confirmed by the Fairfield Police Department.

Tragically, the deceased individual was an 18-year-old, while the injured include individuals aged 11, 20, and 25.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to Fairfield High School around 7:15 p.m. after receiving calls about a shooting in the school’s parking lot, shortly after the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremony, as reported by KXTV.

The incident left four individuals with gunshot wounds. Sadly, one succumbed to their injuries, while the other three were promptly hospitalized for medical care.

Earlier Wednesday evening, Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez said in a Facebook post that three people had been shot and described an “active shooter chase.”

Fairfield Police have not released information about a suspect and did not provide details about any pursuit during a media briefing.

Ilana Israel Samuels, executive director of communications for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, said the district was aware of the shooting after the graduation ceremony had ended.

“We are aware that there was a shooting after the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremonies had ended, and are gathering details,” Samuels said in a statement. “Law enforcement is on campus, and as this is an active investigation, we have no additional information to share at this time. Our thoughts are with the individuals affected and as soon as we have more details we will share that with you.”

The investigation remains active. Police said detectives are interviewing witnesses and following leads but have not released information about a suspect, a possible motive or whether the shooting was targeted.
