A tragic incident unfolded in Malta when the renowned “Kissing Elephants” rock formation collapsed, crushing a jet skier to death just moments after an American tourist had jumped from the site.
The unfortunate victim, a 26-year-old Chinese tourist on a jet ski, was maneuvering beneath the natural arch around 7 p.m. on Saturday when falling rocks trapped him underwater. His 27-year-old female companion sustained critical injuries and was subsequently hospitalized, as reported by the Times of Malta.
This unusual accident occurred shortly after a 32-year-old American visitor had taken a dive off the formation, according to the publication.
While the diver was successfully rescued by a boat passing nearby, hospital treatment was deemed unnecessary.
The identities of all the tourists involved remain undisclosed.
The “Kissing Elephants” is a famous landmark that has wowed visitors for decades.
The tour group Outdoor Explorers Malta called the collapse “an immeasurable tragedy.”
