A tragic incident occurred on Normandy Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. when a man was fatally injured while attempting to cross the street, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
In Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday evening, a pedestrian lost his life while crossing Normandy Boulevard, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
The deceased, identified as a man in his mid-50s, was heading south near the intersection with Lane Avenue South when he was hit by an SUV traveling west in the inner lane. According to police, the collision happened mid-block, outside of a designated crosswalk.
After being transported to a hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries. The SUV’s driver, a woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
Following the accident, all lanes on Normandy Blvd. were closed to traffic as emergency personnel responded, but they were reopened to the public shortly before midnight.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says this is the 27th traffic death of 2026 and the seventh involving a pedestrian.
