In a tragic incident on Jacksonville’s Westside, a motorcyclist lost his life on Monday evening after losing control and veering off the roadway. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed the accident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 5200 block of Manning Cemetery Road.
According to Sgt. Robert Hungerford of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the motorcyclist, a man in his late 50s, was traveling northbound when the unfortunate event unfolded. Hungerford made it clear that there is no indication that the man was speeding at the time of the crash.
After the motorcyclist lost control and went off the road, emergency responders from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department quickly arrived at the scene. Despite their swift action, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital.
Hungerford said the motorcyclist, identified as a man in his late-50s, was traveling northbound on the road when he lost control of the motorcycle and went off the road to the right.
Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and took the man to a local hospital where he died shortly after arriving, Hungerford said.
There is no indication that the man was speeding, according to Hungerford.
This crash marks as the 12th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026, and the second involving a motorcycle.
