PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A 22-year-old St. Augustine man died in a motorcycle crash Saturday night when a collision with another motorcycle put him in the path of an SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at 9:05 p.m. on State Road 100 near Lakeview Drive in Putnam County.
FHP said the victim was traveling in the westbound lane with four other motorcyclists at the time. Two of the bikes collided; the victim veered into the eastbound lane, and the other motorcyclist went onto the grass shoulder.
The victim entered the path of an SUV, which hit his motorcycle head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 59-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman from Virginia, who were in the SUV, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The second motorcyclist involved in the original collision was identified as a 28-year-old man from Keystone Heights. He had minor injuries.
