In Birmingham, Alabama, a suspect has been apprehended following a deadly shooting that took place on Thursday, December 18.
The Birmingham Police Department reports that officers from the West Precinct responded to a shooting incident around 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of Ensley Avenue and Pike Road. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Levi Wells from Birmingham.
Wells was rushed to UAB Hospital for medical attention, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries the next day.
Initial investigations by the police suggest that Wells was involved in an altercation with 26-year-old Austin Kimbrough, also from Birmingham. The conflict escalated as Wells attempted to drive away from a nearby gas station, at which point Kimbrough allegedly shot him before fleeing the scene.
Kimbrough was subsequently located and arrested at a Birmingham residence. What began as charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle will now be elevated to a charge of capital murder by the detectives.
