Man killed in Birmingham shooting, suspect in custody

In Birmingham, Alabama, a deadly shooting unfolded on Thursday along the 5400 block of Jefferson Avenue Southwest, as reported by the Birmingham Police Department.

Officers from the West Precinct arrived at the scene shortly before midday following a report of a shooting incident. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man with a gunshot wound. The victim was swiftly transported by Birmingham Fire and Rescue to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The authorities have yet to reveal the identity of the deceased.

A suspect connected to the shooting has been apprehended and is being questioned at the BPD Headquarters.

Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the victim and the suspect were engaged in a dialogue that escalated, culminating in the fatal shooting. Detectives are currently delving into the specifics of the interaction and the events that triggered the gunfire.
