In Long Beach, California, authorities have detained a father and his wife on charges of torture and murder following the tragic death of a 14-month-old girl, as reported by the police.

The incident came to light when officers were called to a hospital on November 7 to investigate a suspected child abuse case. The young girl was found unresponsive and showed clear signs of trauma, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Detectives later learned that the child, who was on life support, was not expected to recover. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries on November 10, which investigators attributed to abuse inflicted by her father and stepmother.

The individuals involved have been identified by authorities as 40-year-old Alfredo Munoz and 34-year-old Kelly Munoz, both residents of Long Beach.

They are now facing serious charges, including murder, torture, and child abuse resulting in death.

Homicide detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office next week for filing consideration.

Anyone with information regarding the case are asked to contact Homicide Detectives Ethan Shear and Kelsey Myers at (562) 570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted through “LA Crime Stoppers” by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the “P3 Tips” app, or by visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
