Tragedy struck on Easter Sunday when a young man lost his life and another was critically injured after a gunman opened fire on a Brooklyn street. The shocking incident, captured on surveillance video, has left the community reeling as authorities continue their investigation.
The NYPD responded to an emergency call shortly before 6 p.m., arriving at the scene on Fulton Street, nestled between Cleveland and Elton Street in Cypress Hills. There, they found two men, ages 30 and 50, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both victims, whose identities have not been released, were rushed to Brookdale University Medical Center. Sadly, the 30-year-old succumbed to his injuries, while the older man remains in critical condition, police confirmed.
Authorities have detained a person of interest in connection with the shooting, offering a glimmer of hope for answers in the wake of this senseless act.
Video footage obtained by The Post reveals the moments leading up to the shooting, showing two men standing on the sidewalk under the elevated J train subway platform, near a small group of individuals.
Moments after one of the men appears to say something to the crew, a man in a gray jacket and light pants whips out a gun and chillingly fires several shots at him and the other man he was standing near, according to the clip.
The shooter continued to pump bullets into the victims even as they lay motionless on the sidewalk, the disturbing footage showed.
One man dressed in dark clothing and white sneakers started walking away from the group the moment the shooter took out the gun.
Photos later captured stunned onlookers at the scene as authorities swarmed the area and marked a large number of shell casings.
It is unclear what sparked the gunfire or the men’s affiliation with each other. The investigation remains ongoing, authorities said.
