Kenneth Presgraves had been instructed to keep his distance from his residence before the incident that unfolded.

CALLAHAN, Fla. — A tense standoff at a Callahan home stretched from late Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday, culminating in the discovery of a man’s body inside his home, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The deceased man, identified as Kenneth William Presgraves, apparently succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities explained that deputies were dispatched to Presgraves’ residence on Jessica Place around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. This followed a call from Presgraves himself, claiming his wife was trying to cause him more legal trouble.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, Presgraves had been detained for allegedly placing a tracking device illegally and for stalking. This arrest led to a no-contact order being issued on Tuesday, which barred him from coming within 500 feet of the home he shared with his wife.

When responding deputies attempted to explain the court order to Presgraves, NCSO said he became uncooperative. A confrontation then ensued, as Presgraves retreated into his home and barricaded himself inside.

NCSO said its Special Response Team and crisis negotiators then responded to the scene, as negotiators made “multiple attempts” to persuade Presgraves to comply with lawful commands and exit his home safely.

During the standoff, Presgraves reportedly made several suicidal statements, including threats of “suicide by cop.”

Around 3 a.m. Thursday, NCSO said the Special Response Team went into Presgraves’ home and found him dead.

No deputies were injured during the incident.
