A tragic incident unfolded in the Larchmont area of Los Angeles over the weekend when a fire ignited in an empty house and subsequently spread to a neighboring residence, resulting in the death of two pet dogs.

The blaze erupted on St. Andrews Place on Sunday afternoon, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department. Over 100 firefighters battled the flames for approximately an hour before they managed to subdue the inferno.

The Galicia family, who have called the affected home their own since 2008, are now mourning the loss of both their residence and their beloved canine companions, who perished in the fire.

Firefighters inspected the uninhabited building where the fire originated but found no individuals inside. The Galicia family had been expressing concerns to authorities for over a year about the frequent break-ins at the vacant property, where they often observed people smoking.

Jonathan Galicia revealed that he had alerted the Los Angeles Police Department about homeless individuals allegedly trespassing into the empty home.

“They did nothing. I spoke to LAPD to kick them out and they did nothing and now my house burned and my dogs are dead. I just wish they would’ve listened because I called and I called and they didn’t answer,” he said.

Neighbors also say a large homeless encampment just a block away has been growing for months with tents, furniture and illegal activity.

Arson investigators were called to the scene as authorities tried to determine the cause of the fire. No people were injured.
