A young man in his late 20s tragically lost his life while riding a bicycle, according to reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities are currently probing a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred Monday evening, resulting in the death of a cyclist.

According to JSO, the accident took place around 7:15 p.m. on the 4400 block of Hodges Blvd. The cyclist, a Caucasian male in his late 20s, was reportedly heading north when he was hit by what is described as a “dark-colored SUV.” The vehicle sped away from the scene following the collision.

When the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived, they declared the man dead on the spot.

This incident marks the 138th traffic-related death in Duval County this year, and notably, it is the eighth fatality involving a bicyclist, as reported by JSO.
