Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Chief Aaron Bebernitz reported that this incident is the first fatal fire for Duval County in 2026.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A tragic early morning fire in a mobile home on Collins Road claimed the life of a woman on Tuesday, marking Duval County’s first fire-related death of the year, as confirmed by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Crews responded to the scene following a dispatch call at 5:49 a.m., Chief Aaron Bebernitz explained. Upon arrival, they were confronted with intense flames engulfing the residence.

Firefighters faced significant challenges upon entry due to “excessive volumes of debris and clutter inside,” Bebernitz noted. The blaze was successfully extinguished by 6:23 a.m.

Sadly, at 6:42 a.m., firefighters discovered the woman deceased within the home. Her identity has not been released at this time.

Although the Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations is investigating the cause of the fire, Bebernitz said early indications are that the fire wasn’t started intentionally.

The woman’s identity was not released.
