LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. — In the northern suburbs, authorities have concluded that a man discovered deceased near Metra tracks last week likely perished after attempting to disembark from a moving train.

The Lake County coroner identified the individual as 30-year-old Allen Chiquini, who succumbed to blunt-force head trauma around 5:30 p.m. on Friday in the vicinity of Winchester and Ellis in Libertyville.

According to the coroner’s investigation, video evidence revealed that Mr. Chiquini was mistakenly riding a northbound train, thinking it was headed south. After unsuccessful efforts to open the passenger doors, he exited the train by climbing over the safety barrier at the rear door. Tragically, while outside, he either fell or attempted to step off the train, leading to his fatal injuries.

Metra officials clarified on the day of the incident that the train itself did not strike him.

Initially, the coroner’s report on Monday suggested injuries typical of a train collision, but it has since been confirmed that Mr. Chiquini was not hit by a train.

Toxicology testing is pending, the coroner said.

Further information was not immediately available. Metra police are investigating.
