The beloved former radio personality known as “Uncle Jimmy” has tragically passed away after being shot outside his home in Kansas City. Authorities have arrested three teenagers in connection with his murder.
James Dodds, who gained recognition for his appearances on Fox Sports’ show “Speak For Yourself,” was discovered with gunshot wounds around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday. He was urgently transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Sadly, Dodds succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Monday, according to local police reports.
In connection with this heinous act, Aaron Johnson, Mark Elliott Nash, and Marquel McGee, all aged 18, have been charged with first-degree murder. The Kansas City Star reports on the arrests, although details regarding the motive remain undisclosed.
During his career, Dodds was known for his collaboration with Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock and frequently appeared on the program “Speak For Yourself,” where his charismatic presence left a lasting impression on audiences.
“I want to do the best that I can to celebrate Jimmy,” Whitlock said. “For maybe 25 years, Uncle Jimmy was a huge part of my life,” Whitlock said on a tribute episode of his show streamed on YouTube Tuesday.
Former NFLer and sports broadcaster Marcellus Wiley fondly remembered Dodds in a touching tribute post on X.
“Thank you for the laughs, the wisdom, and the memories. You were truly one of one,” Wiley said in his post. “Rest easy, Uncle Jimmy. Your spirit, your humor, and your impact will never be forgotten.”
