A New York City firefighter tragically lost his life while combating a fierce five-alarm fire in Brooklyn on Saturday night, as confirmed by city officials.

The firefighter, identified as Patrick Brady, was responding to a raging blaze that tore through a six-story apartment building located on Kings Highway in the Brownsville neighborhood. Mayor Eric Adams, alongside fire department officials, shared the somber news at a press conference held late Saturday at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn.

Mayor Adams paid tribute to Brady, remarking, “He gave his life protecting this city that he loves and there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening.” Brady, a resident of Queens, was remembered for his dedication and bravery in the face of danger.

Addressing the firefighter’s family, Adams expressed heartfelt condolences, saying, “I want to express my deepest sympathy for Ms. Brady, his wife, and his family. This is a firefighter family. They have been dedicated to protecting the lives of New Yorkers. We will all cherish Patrick’s memory. We realize how painful this is for the family and for the people of this city.”

Brady’s death marks a somber moment for the FDNY as he becomes the second firefighter to lose his life in the line of duty within a span of two weeks, underscoring the perilous nature of their work and the ultimate sacrifice made by those who serve.

No additional information was provided on the fire or how Brady died.
