Lauren Bennett, the British singer celebrated for her roles in groups such as G.R.L. and the Paradiso Girls, as well as her feature on LMFAO’s 2011 hit “Party Rock Anthem,” has died at the age of 36.
The news of Bennett’s death was shared through an announcement on G.R.L.’s official Instagram account, which stands for Girls Rock Life.
“We deliver this heartbreaking news with profound sorrow,” the statement began. “Lauren held a special place in our lives and our hearts are shattered by this loss. Her laughter, love, and countless memories will be cherished forever. Lauren’s beautiful spirit touched an extraordinary number of people, and her presence will be deeply missed and always remembered.”
The heartfelt post concluded with, “Rest peacefully, dear Lauren. You will remain in our hearts forever.”
The post was penned by members Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen.
The cause of death wasn’t revealed.
While G.R.L. members announced Bennett’s passing on July 6, it’s unclear when it actually occurred. Her Paradiso Girls groupmate, Aria Crescendo, posted a message honoring what would have been Bennett’s 37th birthday.
In a lengthy caption, she wrote that she wished Bennett were “here so we can celebrate.” She noted that the pair met 20 years ago when Bennett was just 16, and they “grew up together.”
“We made amazing souvenirs like this song we did with @iamwill in the studio. We had so much fun over the years, so many stories and jokes that only you and me know about…LOVE YOU FOREVER.”
Born in Kent, England, Bennett first joined the girl group the Paradiso Girls in 2007. They’re known for hits like “Patron Tequila” featuring rappers Lil Jon and Eve. The song hit No. 3 on the Hot Dance Club Play Chart. The group disbanded in 2010.
She then pursued a solo career, being featured on will.i.am’s “I Got it from My Mama” and LMFAO’s massive hit “Party Rock Anthem.” She was also on CeeLo Green’s “Love Gun.”
After working with Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin, she joined Antin’s girl group G.R.L. in 2011. They were known for hits like “Vacation” from the “Smurfs 2” soundtrack, “Ugly Heart,” and “Wild Wild Heart” with Pitbull. The group initially consisted of five members; however, in 2014, member Simone Battle was found dead in her West Hollywood home. Police ruled it a suicide.
The group disbanded in 2015. In 2016, Bennett released the dance track “Reality” with DJ Nick Martin and “Hurricane.” That same year, she and G.R.L. member Slayton performed as a trio alongside Jazzy Mejia.
In 2017, Bennett and her brother Ryan formed the rock, country and blues duo BENNETT. They released the single “It’s All Good.”
In 2021, Bennett reunited with G.R.L. bandmates Slayton and Estrada and announced new music was on the way after Mejia left a year earlier. While van Oppen didn’t reunite with the group, she has been active on social media with her former members.
Bennett is survived by her 6-year-old daughter, Harlow, whom she shares with dancer Kenny Wormald.
