A harrowing scene unfolded in Hammonton, New Jersey, where two helicopters collided midair, according to federal authorities. The tragic incident resulted in one fatality and left another individual critically injured.
Police Chief Kevin Friel reported that emergency responders were dispatched around 11:25 a.m. on Sunday following alerts of an aviation crash. Upon arrival, fire crews swiftly acted to extinguish the flames consuming one of the helicopters.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has identified the aircraft involved as an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C. Both helicopters were occupied solely by their pilots at the time of the collision, which occurred above Hammonton Municipal Airport.
Tragically, one pilot lost their life in the accident, while the other was rushed to a local hospital, battling life-threatening injuries. Eyewitness video captured the chilling moment when one helicopter spiraled rapidly to the ground.

Hammonton is a town of about 15,000 people located in Atlantic County in the southern part of New Jersey, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) southeast of Philadelphia. The town has a history of agriculture and is located near the Pine Barrens, a forested wilderness area that covers more than 1 million acres (405,000 hectares).
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will be investigating the crash, Friel said.
