The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says speed may have been a factor in the crash.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A motorcyclist died after hitting a concrete pole in Jacksonville’s San Marco area, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told First Coast News early Friday morning.

JSO said the motorcyclist, who was a man, was driving southbound in the 1400 block of Kings Avenue when he failed to “negotiate a curve in the road.” As a result, the motorcycle left the roadway, to which it then struck the concrete pole, according to the sheriff’s office.

It appeared speed may have been a factor in the crash, JSO said in a statement.

JSO said the man was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, as detectives are now determining “all the circumstances” involving the crash.

The crash prompted Kings Avenue to close in both directions for nearly an hour and a half, and marks as the 18th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2025, according to JSO.
