A tragic incident in Downers Grove has led to the arrest of Nedas Revuckas, a 19-year-old from Westmont, who is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder. The charges stem from the alleged stabbing of a pregnant woman, followed by setting her apartment on fire.

The heartbreaking event unfolded on Monday night, when firefighters responded to a blaze in the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue. Inside, they discovered the body of the pregnant victim, prompting an immediate investigation.

Originally, Revuckas was scheduled to appear before a DuPage County judge on Wednesday. However, the detention hearing has been delayed until Thursday morning. The postponement was necessary to allow both the prosecution and defense additional time to review the extensive evidence collected in the case.

In addition to murder and arson charges, Revuckas faces counts of armed robbery and animal cruelty, painting a grim picture of the alleged events. The community awaits further developments as the legal process continues to unfold.

Revuckas faces first-degree murder, armed robbery, arson, animal cruelty and other charges.

Investigators said 30-year-old Eliza Morales resisted the suspect at her doorstep, as he tried to rob that young mother, who was set to deliver her second child, a baby girl, in March.

ABC7 Chicago spoke with the victim’s mother-in-law, who said she was taking care of Morales’ young daughter in a neighboring apartment building, when the attack happened.

Morales’ husband, Gabriel, was at work when he got the call that his wife and unborn baby were gone.

“I’m gonna spend the rest of my life missing her,” Gabriel Morales said.” I can get every second back with her and just continue try to live through her for my daughter. And continue to be strong for my family.”

Family members also said they believe Morales was home alone cooking dinner when her attacker knocked on the door. She worked in the payroll department of a children’s hospital.

Prosecutors intend to ask a judge to deny Revuckas pre-trial release, saying in court documents he poses a real and present threat to community safety.

Court documents also reveal the incident appeared to stem from a car sale.

Gabriel Morales had listed a pickup truck on Facebook Marketplace, and Revuckas had intended to purchase it, the documents show.

But Revuckas was upset about the condition of the truck and “decided to take out his frustration on Eliza,” the documents say.

Court documents allege, during a struggle, Eliza Morales suffered 70 stab wounds.

Revuckas is also accused of stabbing the Morales family’s dog.

This is a developing story; check back with ABC7 Chicago for updates.
