In a tragic turn of events on the roads of Columbia County, a 29-year-old woman from Lake City lost her life in a crash on I-10 early Sunday morning, as confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). This incident occurred just hours after another fatal accident involving a pedestrian on Pinemount Road.

The fatal collision unfolded around 4 a.m., with the woman driving westbound on I-10, situated north of Five Points. A 36-year-old man from Jacksonville was also traveling in the same direction in an SUV.

According to FHP’s report, the woman’s vehicle collided with the rear of the SUV. The impact caused her car to veer off to the left, eventually halting in the eastbound lanes. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jacksonville man involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and is currently under medical care. The grim night highlights the dangers that can arise unexpectedly on the roadways, serving as a somber reminder of the need for caution and awareness while driving.

The man was left with serious injuries, FHP reported.

Around five hours earlier, FHP said a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car on Pinemount Road (County Road 252), west of Lake City.

A Wellborn man, 76, was reportedly driving an SUV west on Pinemount Road near SW Miracle Court. FHP said he collided with a Cross City man, 46, who had been in the shoulder of the road heading the same direction. FHP said the driver did stop, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene just before 11 p.m. Saturday night.

It’s currently unclear if anyone will face charges in relation with the crashes.
