Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez dies in plane crash

According to the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority, Aerocivil, the tragic plane crash claimed the lives of “the pilot, the co-pilot, and four passengers.”

In a devastating turn of events, Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez passed away in a plane crash in South America on Saturday, as confirmed by authorities. The beloved artist was 34 years old.

The accident occurred between the towns of Paipa and Duitama in Colombia, resulting in the loss of all six individuals aboard the aircraft.

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority, Aerocivil, reported that among those who perished were “the pilot, the co-pilot, and four passengers.”

“With profound sadness and unquantifiable sorrow, Yeison Jiménez’s team and organization share the heartbreaking news of his passing,” read a statement on Jiménez’s Instagram page, written in Spanish. “Today, we bid farewell not only to an artist but to a son, a brother, a friend, and a human being filled with dreams and bravery, who turned his life story into a beacon of hope for thousands.”

Jiménez was heading to Medellín, Colombia and it crashed shortly after takeoff, according to Aerocivil. They said the plane activated the emergency locator transmitter which helped guide rescue and responding crews to the crash. 

An investigation is underway. There is no known cause of the crash at this time. 

The Boyacá governor’s office said it regrets the crash and described Jiménez as “one of the most representative figures of Colombian popular music,” in a statement translated from Spanish. 

They identified the other victims as Captain Hernando Torres, Juan Manuel Rodríguez, Óscar Marín, Jefferson Osorio and Weisman Mora.

Jiménez began making music at 7 years old, according to his Spotify biography. At 14, while working in a wholesale food market, he recorded five musical tracks which were part of his debut album in 2013. 

Jiménez has more than 3.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify with “Guaro (Remix),” “Aventurero,” and “Hasta La Madre” listed as some of his most popular tracks.
