WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The National Association of Biology Teachers has confirmed that Lindsey Fields is another victim of American Airlines Flight 5342 that crashed with a military helicopter and landed in the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

Lindsey was traveling to represent the NABT community and advocate for excellence in life science education.

This is a tremendous loss. Please keep Lindsey, the other victims, and their families in your hearts. We also ask that you respect the privacy of her loved ones at this time.

We will share more information as it becomes available.”

The NABT Board of Directors

Fields taught a variety of classes at Butler Community College. In her biography, she wrote that she graduated from Seward County Community College with an associate’s degree in pre-veterinary medicine and Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of science and a master of science in zoology. Before teaching at BCCC, she spent time doing PhD work at the University of Mississippi working in molecular genetics and taught at Ole Miss.

Fields continued to share that she enjoyed cooking, reading, hiking (any type of activity outdoors, really), and spending time with her family and Great Danes. She also said that she loved to travel to the mountains and spend time fishing.

Lindsey was a colleague, friend, and educator who dedicated her wisdom and talents to changing students’ lives every day. We owe her much gratitude for sharing her light with us and we will forever feel this loss. We send much love and support to her family and friends during this most difficult time.”

KSN News talked to Shrry Annee, who worked with Fields, on Friday. Annee talked about her passion for science.

“She is a fierce advocate of life science education which ultimately that’s what she was doing when she was traveling to Washington, DC,” Annee said. “The importance of connection and being with other teachers and talking shop, she was just so good at helping us navigate that.”

Counseling services remain available, free of charge, for any student, staff or faculty member needing assistance during this time. If needed, please do not hesitate to reach out to Nancy Hamm at 316-322-3162 or email nhamm2@butlercc.edu.

On Monday, Feb. 3, at 9:45 a.m., Butler Community College will observe a moment of silence across all Butler locations to honor the lives lost and those impacted by the recent American Airlines crash.
