Tragic Shooting at South Carolina State University Claims Two Lives, Sparks Safety Concerns

Tragedy struck South Carolina State University on Thursday when a shooting resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left at least one other person injured.

According to a statement from the university, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

Details about the victims, including their identities and the condition of the survivor, have not been disclosed to the public.

The university responded swiftly by implementing a campus-wide lockdown around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, after receiving reports of the shooting at the Hugine Suites, a student residential area.

The campus remains on lockdown as of 1 a.m.

The university’s Department of Public Safety is being assisted by the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office in patrolling on and around the campus.

Friday classes have been canceled, the university said, and counselors are available for students.
