A mass shooting erupted following what is believed to have been a gathering of over 15 individuals for a confrontation stemming from a romantic conflict, as reported by Jacksonville police.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Wednesday night, four individuals, including a teenage girl, sustained gunshot wounds in the Magnolia Gardens neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
During a press briefing, Lieutenant Frederick Dash of the JSO’s Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit detailed that officers arrived at the scene on Begonia Road around 6 p.m. to discover four people injured by gunfire. The victims include three women, aged 47, 22, and 20, along with a 17-year-old girl, each having suffered at least one gunshot wound.
A spokesperson from Jacksonville Fire and Rescue indicated that one of the women was initially in critical condition. However, by Wednesday night, the Sheriff’s Office reported that all victims were in stable condition and expected to recover.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a significant group, numbering at least 15, had gathered in the street. This gathering was linked to a dispute involving a romantic relationship among some of the individuals involved, Lieutenant Dash explained.
Police were looking for three men for questioning Wednesday night. Lt. Dash described them as black men, wearing dark clothes and surgical masks, who left the scene in a silver SUV shortly after shots were fired.
The exact motivation for the shooting, nor the number of shooters, was not immediately known. Lt. Dash said it is not believed to have been gang-related.
Anyone with additional information on the shooting or any suspects is asked to contact JSO directly at 904-630-0500 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
