The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the two individuals detained were taken to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is dead, another is in critical condition, and two others have been detained following a shooting in Jacksonville’s Brentwood area Friday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. Matthews said just after 10 p.m., patrol officers were sent to the 900 block of West 23rd Street in reference to the shooting.

Upon arrival, Matthews said officers found two males suffering from gunshot wounds. Both individuals were taken to a local hospital, where one died from his injuries and the other remains in “critical, but stable condition,” according to Matthews.

Matthews further told First Coast News that two people were detained and taken to JSO’s headquarters downtown to be interviewed.

The circumstances surrounding the incident and the relationships of those involved is unknown, said Matthews, who added that the incident is believed to be isolated.

JSO’s homicide and crime scene units are actively investigating the incident, Matthews said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
