Gunfire erupted at the Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket amidst a hockey match between Coventry and Blackstone Valley Schools, according to WPRI.com. The alarming sounds of gunshots sent waves of panic through spectators and participants alike.

Witnesses described a scene of chaos, as patrons from a nearby Walgreens rushed in, visibly distraught, to alert others about the active shooting situation.

Authorities confirmed that several individuals were hurt during the shooting at the Dennis M Lynch Arena on Monday, February 16, 2026. The incident prompted a significant police response, with law enforcement swiftly arriving at the scene to secure the area.

The employee said they were told to close and evacuate the building. It was unclear how many people were shot. 

“We are aware of the incident and are coordinating with our partners,” the FBI said. “We refer you to the locals for any additional information.”

Rhose Island Gov. Dan McKee said his office was monitoring the events. 

“I just spoke with Mayor Grebien as well as the Rhode Island State Police who are working with local law enforcement,” he wrote on Facebook. “I am praying for Pawtucket and everyone involved.”
