Chicago Loop stabbing: 6 in custody after homeless man stabbed to death outside Wabash Street restaurant, officials say

In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, a man experiencing homelessness was fatally stabbed in front of a restaurant in downtown Chicago. Authorities have detained six individuals in connection with the crime, though the circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear.

The Chicago Police Department reported that the man was discovered unresponsive at approximately 7:20 a.m. in the 200 block of South Wabash Avenue, located in the Loop area. The victim, who had sustained what appeared to be a stab wound, was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. As of now, officials have not disclosed the victim’s identity.

By Monday, police confirmed that charges against the suspects are pending, indicating that the investigation is still very much active. In an effort to gather more information, Cook County Crime Stoppers has announced a reward of up to $10,000 for any tips that lead to an arrest in this case.

This unsettling event underscores the ongoing challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness and highlights the need for continued efforts to ensure safety and security for all members of the community.

Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

“This is a senseless loss of life,” Cook County Crime Stoppers Executive Director Paul Rutherford said in part. “We are deeply committed to supporting law enforcement and the community in bringing justice for this individual.”
