Authorities have detained several individuals for questioning after a fatal stabbing on Friday night claimed the life of an elderly man, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An elderly man has died following a stabbing incident in the Moncrief Park area on Friday afternoon, according to a statement from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police officers arrived at the location near West 30th Street and Leonard Circle East at approximately 3:30 p.m., as detailed by JSO Sgt. Rudlaff during a press briefing on Friday night.
The victim, believed to be between 65 and 70 years old, suffered a stab wound to the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery but sadly succumbed to his injuries, Sgt. Rudlaff confirmed.
First Coast News observed investigators actively entering and exiting a house on the street, which had been cordoned off with crime scene tape. Details about the incident remain scarce as the investigation is still underway.
Although no suspect was immediately identified, Sgt. Rudlaff said multiple people were detained for questioning and that there is believed to be no further threat to the public.
