Authorities were alerted to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Oak Hill, Delaware, where they found the wife of Jill Biden’s former spouse deceased.

Linda Stevenson, aged 64, passed away late Sunday night at her home, according to a report by TMZ.

Linda was the wife of Bill Stevenson, 77, who was previously married to the current First Lady from 1970 until 1975. She was found unresponsive in the living room.

She leaves behind a daughter, Christina Vettori, whom she shared with Bill.

The New Castle County Police Department has launched an investigation to determine if her death involved any criminal activity.

An autopsy will be carried out to determine how Stevenson died, with a 911 call audio obtained by TMZ mentioning a cardiac arrest.

No further details have been given about the alleged domestic dispute or who it involved.

Bill previously told the Daily Mail how he and Jill were still married when she began seeing the future president in 1975.

A domestic dispute in the 1300 block of Idlewood Road in the Oak Hill neighborhood was reported to New Castle County Police around 11.16pm.

Linda was found when police entered the home, according to law enforcement.

She was given life-saving measures by officers but did not survive and was declared dead at the scene.

A police spokesman added: ‘Detectives from the division’s criminal investigations unit were notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.’

As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been no charges filed in relation to Linda’s passing.

Bill married Jill Jacobs, later Biden, in 1970.

Two years later, he said, the couple were working on then-New Castle County Councilman Joe Biden’s first campaign for the Senate.

‘I gave $10,900 to his first campaign — in cash,’ Bill told the Daily Mail.

Bill said he first suspected Biden and his then-wife Jill were having an affair in August 1974.  At the time, he was 26, Jill was 23 and Joe was 31.

He said: ‘I know exactly when it was. Bruce Springsteen was going to play at The Stone Balloon and I had to go to Northern New Jersey to pay him in advance.

‘I asked Jill to go with me and she said no — she had things to do, she had to look after Joe’s kids, Beau and Hunter. It was kind of a big deal to go meet Springsteen. I had no idea she and Joe were that kind of friendly.

‘Then one of her best friends told me she thought Joe and Jill were getting a little too close. I was surprised that she came to me.’

Bill said his suspicions were confirmed after a man told him the future president had been driving his wife’s car when they were involved in an accident.

‘I asked Jill to leave the house, which she did,’ he said. ‘Her father was begging me to take her back when he found out what was going on. He asked me to give her a second chance, but I wasn’t interested.’

He added that he was ‘not surprised’ the Bidens had fallen in love.

Bill added: ‘Everyone who meets Jill falls in love with her immediately. It’s hard not to.’

The couple divorced in May 1975, which Bill said had a silver lining.

‘If it wasn’t for my divorce, I would never have met my wife Linda and she’s the greatest thing in my life,’ he told the Daily Mail in 2020.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Bill Stevenson for comment.
