Trinidad Chambliss intends to take legal action against the NCAA in Mississippi’s state court, aiming to secure a sixth year of eligibility for the Ole Miss quarterback.

Tom Mars, Chambliss’ attorney, shared with ESPN’s Pete Thamel that he, alongside Mississippi trial lawyer William Liston, is preparing to file a “complaint for a Preliminary and Permanent Injunction” on Chambliss’ behalf.

In his statement to ESPN, Mars expressed confidence in the lawsuit’s robustness, stating, “We anticipate our case will be markedly more detailed and substantiated than recent eligibility lawsuits.” He continued, “Substantial preparation is required before we can pursue an injunction enabling Trinidad to participate next season. Should the NCAA appeals committee not reverse its decision, we plan to file in Mississippi state court by week’s end. Until then, we have no further comments.”

Chambliss has been striving for an additional year to continue his college football career after playing a pivotal role in leading the Rebels to the College Football Playoff semifinals, where they narrowly lost to Miami with a score of 31-27.

The NCAA rejected Chambliss’ plea for extended eligibility, citing that neither Ole Miss nor Ferris State, his previous team, supplied adequate medical documentation to justify his request.

Chambliss had taken a redshirt his first season at Ferris State in 2021-22 and he was kept off the field in his second year there due to medical reasons.

He did play the next two seasons for the Division II school and led them to a national championship before transferring to Ole Miss right before this past season.

A waiver request was submitted in November to the NCAA by Ole Miss.

Chambliss threw for nearly 4,000 yards and had 22 touchdown passes during the Rebels’ 13-2 season, which included setting a school record for wins and making the CFP for the first time.

Ole Miss did land a potential Chambliss replacement in the transfer portal on Sunday.

Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight committed to Ole Miss on Sunday, according to ESPN,  after making two appearances for the Tigers as a true freshman this past season.

He threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns ina 62-17 win over Mercer in November.
