AUSTIN (KXAN) Austin Tex-Mex restaurant Trudy’s is closing its north Austin location, leaving the decades-old restaurant without a foothold in Central Texas.

The restaurant, which started in 1977, wrote in an Instagram post that it was “saying goodbye” to the location on Burnet Road. It’s unclear when the restaurant will officially close its doors.

“This spot has been so much more than a restaurant it’s been a place where memories were made, margaritas were shared, and the spirit of Austin came to life,” the Instagram post reads.

Trudy’s was bought by a North Carolina venture capital company in 2020 after the restaurant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Trudy’s closed a south Austin location on Little Texas Lane in 2024. The location near the University of Texas campus was sold in 2022.

When the south location closed, Trudy’s leadership maintained it was exploring options for expanding the brand in Austin. Monday’s post said Trudy’s was “excited” for what’s next.

“While this chapter closes, Trudy’s Tex-Mex continues forward, and we’re excited for what’s to come,” the Instagram post reads.
