Trump sets 10% hike in tariffs on Canada after World Series ad

In a recent development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will be escalating tariffs on Canada by an additional 10%. This decision appears to be a direct response to an advertisement from Ontario, Canada, which aired during the World Series broadcast and has been a point of contention for the President.

The advertisement, which features a clip of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan discussing the negative impacts of tariffs, drew Trump’s ire, leading him to terminate trade discussions with Ottawa on Thursday. Trump criticized the ad as misleading, believing it misrepresented Reagan’s stance on trade tariffs.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump reiterated his disapproval of the ad and announced his decision to raise the tariffs, emphasizing his view that the advertisement was a misrepresentation of Reagan’s beliefs regarding tariffs and their economic consequences. The ad had been running for several days before the President’s initial reaction on Thursday.
