Trump asks Supreme Court to allow National Guard in Chicago

President Donald Trump has taken a bold step by filing an emergency petition with the Supreme Court, seeking permission to dispatch the National Guard to Chicago. This request comes in response to intensifying protests within the city, sparked by controversial immigration raids carried out in a military-style manner.

The President is urging the Supreme Court to overturn a decision made by a lower court judge, which temporarily blocked the deployment of the National Guard for a minimum of two weeks. This block was put in place following a district court judge’s issuance of a temporary restraining order. The judge argued that there was insufficient evidence to suggest any imminent “danger of rebellion” that would necessitate such a drastic measure.

In an unusual move, Trump is utilizing the Supreme Court’s ‘shadow docket’ to fast-track his request. This docket is typically reserved for urgent cases, allowing decisions to be made quickly without the usual full briefing and oral arguments.
