President Trump weighed in on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement Tuesday, changing his tune on the superstar singer he has publicly bashed in the past.

The news of their engagement broke while Trump held an hours-long, marathon Cabinet meeting, after which a reporter asked the president for his reaction.

“Well, I wish them a lot of luck,” Trump said. “I think it’s I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy and I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”

Swift announced the engagement to her 280 million Instagram followers earlier Tuesday, sharing snapshots of her and Kelce embracing in a garden filled with flowers and showing off what appeared to be an engagement ring.

Trump has had harsher words for Swift in the past.

The president has repeatedly attacked Swift on Truth Social, saying he “hates” her and that she is “no longer HOT” in May. He also said in February that Swift was “booed out of the stadium” at the Super Bowl, when Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Trump attended the Super Bowl and picked the Chiefs to win beforehand, praising quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, saying at the time that “she’s a Trump fan.”

Last summer, he called Swift “very beautiful” and questioned whether the entertainer was “legitimately liberal” or if it was “just an act.”

Swift has been critical of Trump, saying in 2019 that he was “gaslighting the American public.” She endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 White House bid.
