On Saturday, former President Trump asserted on Truth Social that the United States has triumphed over Iran in military, economic, and other spheres. He urged nations that rely on the Strait of Hormuz for oil transport to ensure the security of the now-blocked passage.
Trump emphasized the importance of international cooperation, stating, “Nations dependent on oil passing through the Hormuz Strait need to manage its safety, and we are prepared to assist — significantly!”
He further elaborated, “The U.S. will partner with these countries to ensure operations proceed efficiently and smoothly. This collaborative approach should have always been the norm, and now it will unite the world in pursuit of harmony, security, and lasting peace!”
The Hill has sought a response from the White House regarding Trump’s statements.
Trump’s assertion of the U.S. having “beaten” Iran follows his Friday remarks on the same platform, where he described Iran as “completely defeated” and expressed that they are eager for a deal.
The president told reporters on Friday he has his “own idea” of how long the U.S. operation in the Middle Eastern country would ultimately last.
“I mean, I have my own idea. But what good does it do?” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews when asked about the duration of the war. “It’ll be as long as it’s necessary.”
On Friday, Trump launched what he referred to as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island.”
The bombardment took place after Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, said last week that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed as long as the conflict continues, triggering further fears of economic upheaval.
On Saturday, Trump announced that numerous countries will send ships to the Strait of Hormuz amid its closure.
“Many Countries, especially those who are affected by Iran’s attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait, will be sending War Ships, in conjunction with the United States of America, to keep the Strait open and safe,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We have already destroyed 100% of Iran’s Military capability, but it’s easy for them to send a drone or two, drop a mine, or deliver a close range missile somewhere along, or in, this Waterway, no matter how badly defeated they are.”
