COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WGN) Incumbent Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard lost Tuesday’s Democratic primary to Trustee Jason House.

As of 7:30 p.m., with 17 of 17 precincts reported, House won the primary with 3,896 votes (87.91%) compared to Henyard’s 536 votes (12.09%).

4,446 ballots cast were cast in total, equal to 26.94% of the 16,506 registered voters.

Henyard’s loss comes after more than a year’s worth of affiliate WGN Investigates reports exposed questionable spending, allegations of cronyism and corruption.

House is a lifelong resident of the village and has spent eight years serving on the board.

After launching his mayoral campaign in July, House said if he were elected, he would prioritize ethics reform, restoring checks and balances in the village, and building trust in the community.

The senior trustee also promised to post all financials on the village’s website, ensuring transparency, and making industrial and retail development a priority.

Henyard launched her first mayoral bid in October 2020 after serving as a village trustee since 2013.

Henyard announced her bid for reelection in a social media post shared in mid-October.

Henyard, who assumed office in 2021 after defeating incumbent mayor Riley Rogers, is the youngest mayor in the village’s history and the first woman to hold the position.

Following Tuesday’s results, Henyard told WGN-TV that “the people have spoken” and that the results told her that “God must have a different plan.”

“Stay tuned,” Henyard said when asked what she had planned next.
