DENVER (KDVR) — Denver police on Tuesday arrested two people after several protesters joining demonstrations against recent immigration crackdowns were targeted with racist messages in early February.

Three women were going to the Colorado State Capitol on Feb. 8 to participate in a protest in response to recent Immigrations and Customs Enforcement actions directed by the Trump administration, the Denver Police Department said in a Wednesday press release. Just after 3 p.m. near 10th and Lincoln streets, a pickup truck approached the women, and two people allegedly yelled “white power” and “Nazi power” at them.

The two also allegedly threw glass objects at the women and drove away, but not before one displayed a Nazi salute, police said.

The two people, one of which was identified as David Halverson, 48, were arrested on Feb. 18 on three counts of investigation of attempted bias-motivated crime with bodily injury. The other suspect was a juvenile, police said, and his name was not released.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office will make final charges, police said.

The Feb. 8 protest came days after a large crowd in Denver joined national protests against President Donald Trump’s early actions after he took office. Another large protest against Trump took place in Denver earlier this week on Presidents Day.
