According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, both individuals involved sustained injuries that are not life-threatening.
In JACKSONVILLE, Fla., a quarrel between two men in the Riverside neighborhood escalated into a shooting early Saturday morning. Both parties were subsequently taken to the hospital, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Richardson from the JSO stated that officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of College Street after receiving reports of a shooting incident involving the two men at approximately 2:08 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the two men had engaged in a heated verbal exchange, though their identities remain undisclosed.
Following the argument, one of the men returned to his vehicle where he was accompanied by his girlfriend. It was at this point that the other man approached and fired several shots in his direction, according to Richardson.
“The victim and his girlfriend returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times,” Richardson said.
The victim was reportedly shot in the shoulder, while the suspect was shot in the abdomen and foot. JSO did not say the victim’s girlfriend was injured.
The injuries the two men sustained are considered to be non-life-threatening, according to Richardson.
“Detectives responded to the scene, canvassed the area for video surveillance and spoke with witnesses,” Richardson added. “This appears to be an isolated incident where the victim and suspect were involved in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting.”
