The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says one of the men suffered life-threatening injuries in the Sunday night shooting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two men were shot during a fight in the backyard of a home on Jacksonville’s Westside Sunday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sergeant Smith says just before 11 p.m., officers responded to the home located in the 8200 block of Joffre Drive in reference to a person shot. When they arrived, Smith says officers found the two men, who are both in their “late-thirties,” suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“One male suffered a gunshot wound to his arm and abdomen,” Smith told First Coast News. “The other male suffered a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen.”

The sheriff’s office says both men were then taken to a local hospital, as one of them suffered life-threatening injuries in the shooting; the other is stable.

“Our initial investigation determined the suspect, a witness and the two victims were at a residence,” Smith said. “An argument took place between the suspect and one of the victims. The argument progressed into a fight and during the fight, the suspect shot both victims.”

Smith further explained that the suspect fled the area on foot; they are described as a “white male, with dark hair, average height, thin build last seen wearing a light colored hoodie and pants,” according to JSO.

“We believe that the suspect probably lives somewhere nearby,” Smith said. “So, we believe he probably fled home. We’ve checked that location, but so far he has not turned up.”

Detectives responded to the scene, Smith said, and are speaking with “involved parties” and looking for video. JSO said it is still working to learn the relationship between the suspect and victims.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
