The U.S. military carried out targeted strikes on numerous Islamic State locations in Syria this past Friday, in response to an ambush by a gunman linked to ISIS that resulted in the deaths of two U.S. service members and one civilian a week earlier.
Under the banner of “Operation Hawkeye Strike,” U.S. forces successfully dismantled ISIS fighters, weaponry, and infrastructure. This operation was specifically launched in retaliation for the December 13 attack on American troops stationed in Palmyra, Syria, as confirmed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Speaking on the matter, Hegseth emphasized, “This is not the onset of a war but a declaration of vengeance. Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States will always stand firm and unyielding in defending our citizens.”
He further warned, “As stated immediately after the brutal attack, those who target Americans anywhere globally will face the certainty that the United States will track you down and eliminate you without mercy,” signaling the possibility of ongoing military actions.
