On Friday, London authorities announced the arrest of four individuals accused of espionage activities on behalf of Iran, specifically targeting the Jewish community.
The Metropolitan Police revealed that the detainees include one Iranian citizen and three individuals holding dual British-Iranian citizenship, all accused of collaborating with a foreign intelligence agency.
These arrests, carried out just after 1 a.m., took place at various locations in and around North London. The suspects are believed to have been gathering intelligence on both places and people.
The ages of those apprehended are 22, 40, 52, and 55, and law enforcement is continuing to search the residences and other nearby properties for further evidence.
Additionally, police have detained six more men on charges of assisting the main suspects, bringing them into custody as the investigation continues.
“We understand the public may be concerned, in particular the Jewish community, and as always, I would ask them to remain vigilant and if they see or hear anything that concerns them, then to contact us,” said Commander Helen Flanagan, who is in charge of counterterrorism policing in London.
The arrests come as the US and Israel continue to strike Iran, which has kept up retaliatory strikes on Israel, US bases and across the region.
Britain is not involved in offensive operations but is assisting in regional defense.
