Authorities at the University of North Florida are currently investigating a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred on February 2nd in the vicinity of Eco Adventure. The alert, lacking in suspect information, has left the student body feeling uneasy.

In Jacksonville, Florida, campus police at UNF are delving into the details of a sexual assault allegation involving an incident that reportedly took place around Eco Adventure. This information was disseminated to students via a safety alert on Wednesday.

The alleged incident is said to have happened on the night of February 2, but it wasn’t until Tuesday that the campus authorities received the report.

In a timely warning issued under the Clery Act, university officials mentioned that they are currently without further specifics about the incident or any potential suspect. In response, they have stepped up patrols around the area in question.

The alert reached students on Wednesday, a day following the report, raising concerns due to the scant details provided.

“There’s no information about who might be or where exactly or how to be careful,” said Nirjis Alakhvaze, a master’s student from Spain.

Her late evening classes often mean walking in the dark.

“We’re a little bit more afraid,” she said.

Eric Redlock, another student, noticed the stepped-up security firsthand.

“I was sitting in the boathouse earlier studying, and looked up and there was, like, cops with dogs,” he said.

He contrasted this alert with past ones that included suspect descriptions, such as a man with tattoos.

“They kind of identified a suspect in that other one,” Redlock said. “This one didn’t have any kind of description of the suspect, it’s kind of weird.”

In response, students are taking extra precautions on campus.

“It’s a big campus, so I always try to go with friends whenever it’s darker in the night,” Alakhvaze said.

Many are relying on blue emergency boxes posted across campus, which send instant alerts to university police when activated.

“You can just press the button,” Alakhvaze said. “They will arrive and just like deal with it to try and help you feel safe.”
